That is my reasoning for watching what turned out to be one of the worst comedies to hit NBC in at least four years.
Kath and Kim stars SNL alum Molly Shannon and B-list actress Selma Blair. I predict that the duo will be looking for work before Christmas. Even though the pilot episode did have a couple of mildly humorous sight gags, it's characters were not memorable. They were also not overly likeable or worthy of hatred. Shannon and Blair's characters blended in so well that they almost became part of the wallpapered staircase in Kath's house.
This (hopefully shortlived) series fails to live up the the "new comedy" standards. It isn't earth-shattering, it doesn't push the envelope, it isn't uncomfortable or awkward and its biggest gaffe is that it fails to leave an impression of any type. It's forgettable and the only way it will survive more than two months is its comfortable timeslot between My Name is Earl and The Office.
However, this is just one guy's opinion. Did you watch and enjoy Kath & Kim? Shall we venture guesses as to how many episodes of this dreck will air? I'm choosing four.

While I wasn't rolling on the floor laughing in hysterics, I didn't hate Kath & Kim. I'm willing to stick with it because I love Molly Shannon's antics and am hopeful she is allowed a longer leash in future episodes.
Since this is a remake of an Australian sitcom, I'm also hopeful that it will be allowed to settle into its own groove (a la The Office which was so much more enjoyable when they threw out the British scripts and tailored it to an American audience).
Side note: I do enjoy the new CBS sitcom "Gary Unmarried" quite a bit. The writing shows flares of greatness (especially in Gary's interactions with his children and ex-wife). It would be nice to see that show build on its strengths and uniqueness and avoid becoming a retread "King of Queens" or "Still Standing."

I don't know - I think a lot of TV sitcoms start out rocky. I know that Everybody Loves Raymond and Will and Grace were pretty hard to watch at first, but they came around and won over audiences. I think this show has potential - it's got a great cast and there were some funny moments - the cast and writers just need to find their groove.

I do hope that this show
I do hope that this show gets better but don't most television shows put their best foot forward to impress first-time viewers?
I'll have to check out "Gary Unmarried" tonight before the big debate and see if Jay Mohr is as good as I remember him in "Action" waaaay back on FOX.

I used to love Karen on Will
I used to love Karen on Will and Grace. Actress Megan Mullally just made being a rich, drunk, pill-popping hag look like so much fun!
I agree! She was a riot!
