I visited the new Mix Diner on a Saturday in June, for an early dinner. Because there were 5 in our party, the staff needed to push tables together to accomodate our group. With only 9 other customers in the diner at the time, it seemed to take them a long time (10 minutes) to get us set up. The waitress was unfamiliar with the beer list, and took it upon herself to bring me tap beer after I specifically ordered "an MGD Light in a bottle, with an empty glass." After she brought me a glass of tap beer, I asked why no bottle? Her reply, "We don't have that brand in a bottle." (They didn't have it on tap either. She switched brands, too.) She allowed two of the children to order root beer with their children's menu meals, but did not tell us that the root beer would be the high-buck designer brand in a bottle (it cost more than the beer). Most of our questions about the menu (food and drinks) were answered with, "I don't know, but I can find out if you want me to."
The burger was very good, but the fries were an extra charge, and the overall cost was high, considering the cafeteria-type atmosphere. The rest of the food was just O.K. The Caesar chicken salad was mediocre--good chicken, bad greens. The children's menu mac & cheese was just plain bad....wet pasta with a white sauce.
We will not try the Mix again. But I would suggest that the owners consider revamping their menu to more of a soup & sandwich, burger, salad type menu. The decor is that of a diner. The tables are lined up in rows like a cafeteria. So why try to have a high-end menu? Doesn't make sense. And my primary suggestion is: TRAIN YOUR STAFF!!!!

Thanks for writing such a detailed review. I hate paying for bad mac & cheese, especially when Kraft makes such a good and cheap version.
I bought mac & cheese for my daughter at the Minnesota Zoo and it was terrible. Wet, mushy pasta, like you said. I thought maybe it was my daughter being picky until I tried it. I also overheard a mom next to me talking to her boys about the icky macaroni.
Having a good experience at a restaurant is like attending a concert - the lights, seating, proximity to the stage, sound, band and nearby concert-goers all contribute to making the show the best or worst you've ever been to.
It sounds like Mix was off on several aspects. I really like to see independent operators succeed because they provide another choice besides the chains. I think I'll still give them a shot.

Almost the best place in Chaska.
Sadly The MIX seems to be the best place in Chaska as far as restaurants. While the service provided by the wait staff is very poor, the food is usually well prepared.
It is a shame that The MIX cannot or will not acquire a well trained wait staff. It would have been nice to have a decent place to go out to eat in Chaska.
As far as quality dining there is no competition in Chaska, everything is bad. Where else are you going to go?
Cy's? Not even a nice dive bar. Bad beer and liquor, perhaps they could carry a few import beers.
Kelly's Bar - Another bar right next to Cy's? Is that really needed?
China Pagoda? - Incomplete and always lacking buffet.
Pauly's? - Decent wait staff and ok food. At least there are a few other people dining here on a regular basis unlike The MIX.
Rising Dragon? - quality varies dramatically day to day.
As others have said, please fix the menu and service issues at The MIX. Otherwise just take 312 and go someplace nice in Minneapolis.
I had the experience of trying MIX not long after they opened their doors for business. I am all for locally owned businesses succeeding but with the prices seeming to be straight out of an upscale steakhouse with the variety of food being rather pedestrian but well-prepared and presented they should re-examine things to attempt to find a balance between price and profit. If the service is excellent and the staff is knowledgeable, people will pay a bit of a premium but for a place hanging their hat on hand-cut french fries that were different but maybe suburban Minneapolis isn't ready for different in a place claiming to be a diner or an upscale diner.

I too sampled Mix not long after its opening, so I can't speak to recent changes. The food was quite good, and I enjoyed the decor and the ability to look out on "main street" Chaska. However, I thought the prices were a little high. Alas, everything today is judged against fast food, like the foot-long sandwich you can get for $5.

My family and I stopped in at the Mix on a Saturday afternoon. We were first surprised that we were the only people in the restaurant. They then surprised us more by their inability to service the table or even take our order..
Their menu leaves a lot to be desired, very expensive, particulary when you don't even get anything with your burger..
We can honestly say that we will not step foot in the Mix again.

I've eaten at Mix several times. The staff is getting better, although it's weird how over-staffed they are. The food is yummy -- I particularly like the meatloaf sandwich with sweet tomato chutney. Two suggestions to the owners would be: (1) the fries are much too salty (plus I would prefer a beefier cut fry), and (2) the white dinner rolls are not in line with the type of menu you offer. Consider upgrading to a roll with some flavor or just do away with the rolls altogether.
I will continue to eat at Mix in the hope that they will step it up just a bit more. It's very nice to have a good restaurant within walking distance.

I ate at Mix today- my girlfriend and I were there for a lite and quick lunch. We both enjoyed it. The service was excellent! Not pushy, very accomodating and knew the menu inside and out. Nice place- friendly, casual, cool! When we asked about the chili flavor, we got a sample to taste for ourselves. I ordered the salmon/potato cake with capers and dilled sour cream, it was yummy. Fresh sushi grade salmon! My friend ordered a burger that she said was cooked perfectly, exactly how she ordered it. We had the Mix salad, which had granny smith apples, dried cranberries, mixed greens, and was yummy too. We feel that this was a great find for a fun, new place to get out of the city and have a little fun. Our bill was only $33! Great fun.
