My new go-to restaurant is MIX New American Diner. I really like that place. I adore the zingy colors on the walls and floor - which look to me like chartreuse and brilliant blue or Maya blue. I dig the bar, which appears to be lit from within with a blue light. The chairs, stools and tables are what I'd describe as modern 1950s. The green walls are stenciled with the phrases: MIX--to combine or blend, MIX--to bring into social contact, MIX--to become involved.

And I really like the food.
I don't care about French fries, which are supposed to be a big draw because they are hand cut. But I do love almond-encrusted goat cheese with cranberries and crusty bread and fun drinks like Appletinis. My family and I have eaten peppered beef tips, pork chops, calamari, a mixed green salad with nice chunks of goat cheese and more. I've had a Bloody Mary that contained just the right amount of spice but which could have been dolled up with more accompaniments.

If you're looking for a budget item, I've heard the chili and corn bread is really delicious and inexpensive.

I love dessert and haven't been disappointed at MIX. There's a thick slice of banana cream pie that is a great item for people who dislike cloyingly sweet treats. It's simple with a graham cracker crust.

I do have one complaint about MIX: It is entirely too noisy. I shouldn't have to yell into my companion's ear to be heard. I've visited three or four times and at least twice it was too loud to hold a private conversation. I don't know what the acoustic solution is. I'll try it at lunch time to see if the volume is any better.

MIX seems like an Uptown restaurant and I'm thrilled that it's in downtown Chaska. The prices seem to be in line with something like Ruby Tuesdays. But they are definitely higher than Embers, which is what used to be housed in the completely remodeled building. After eating, my family and I take a little walk around City Square Park where my daughter can take center stage on the white gazebo.

It's a new restaurant that I'll continue to watch and dine at. I hope they continue to do things well and improve on areas that readers and diners bring to the owners' attention.
